Learning

We want all our students to achieve to the best of their ability and to discover a love of learning that will help them through their lives. Our examination results continue to follow a general upward trend and we are tireless in our efforts to ensure that all our students reach their potential. Our specialism in Media Arts and Science together with an emphasis on Inclusion is inextricably entwined with creativity and our creative approaches to teaching and learning and manifest themselves across the whole school.

We place great emphasis on the quality of teaching in the classroom and support all our teachers to develop and extend their own practice but at Stoke Newington we believe that learning is not restricted to the classroom during lessons. In this section you will find out about our Faculties and the subjects our students study as part of the national curriculum along with important information about homework and numeracy and literacy.

Our Gifted & Talented coordinator arranges extension opportunities for our most able students but, being an inclusive school, in the same way that we work to remove barriers to learning in the classroom, we aim to make as many opportunities as possible open to all students so that no child is disadvantaged irrespective of circumstance.

Our resident Behaviour for Learning Advanced Skills Teacher is unique to Stoke Newington and her value immeasurable. Not only does she support outstanding BFL and classroom management training for our school but she has shared good practice with other schools across the country. Our Faculty of Inclusion has a large specialist team in place to support individual students whatever their need to help them access the curriculum and achieve.

You can find out about the learning that takes place out of hours through our extra curricular Clubs programme and the exciting creative activities that take place at school which enhance the curriculum and develop confidence, self esteem and social skills.
