Safer internet day: 9 Feb 2010.
9 Feb 2010 is ‘Safer Internet Day’
The INSAFE campaign – ‘Think B4 U Post’ wants schools to highlight issues around use of the Internet amongst young people.
At SNS all of Year 7 do a unit about this so they should be very familiar with the information below, (hopefully).
What is new?
· Everyone can now post pictures, videos and personal information about themselves onto the wide world web
· You can tag photos so that anyone can look through them
· All this information can remain on line for years
What’s the problem?
· Children and teenagers are major users of social network sites like Facebook, and you don’t realise that anyone can see your information.
· The internet (and therefore internet enabled mobile phones) is another way to bully (cyber bullying). Photos can easily be distorted and used for bullying.
· Adults can pretend to be other people and pursue children
What can you do?
· You can use the privacy settings on social networking sites to make sure only friends can see all your information.
· You can make sure you use only images you think are appropriate.
A very short video highlighting the point about internet safety:
