9 Feb 2010 is ‘Safer Internet Day’

The INSAFE campaign – ‘Think B4 U Post’ wants schools to highlight issues around use of the Internet amongst young people.

At SNS all of Year 7 do a unit about this so they should be very familiar with the information below, (hopefully).

What is new?

· Everyone can now post pictures, videos and personal information about themselves onto the wide world web

· You can tag photos so that anyone can look through them

· All this information can remain on line for years

What’s the problem?

· Children and teenagers are major users of social network sites like Facebook, and you don’t realise that anyone can see your information.

· The internet (and therefore internet enabled mobile phones) is another way to bully (cyber bullying). Photos can easily be distorted and used for bullying.

· Adults can pretend to be other people and pursue children

What can you do?

· You can use the privacy settings on social networking sites to make sure only friends can see all your information.

· You can make sure you use only images you think are appropriate.
