At SNS we ensure that all students with special educational needs are supported to get the best out of their education and achieve to the best of their ability. You can read our SEN Inclusion Policy and Information Statement.

The special educational needs team

We have a large number of students on the special educational needs (SEN) register for a wide variety of needs, from specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, to physical disabilities.

We currently have a large team of learning support assistants, who work in lessons with students with statements of special needs or educational health care plans and students on the SEN register.

Some of our students with special needs benefit from small groups for support with maths, English and development of social skills.

We run ‘Stepping Up’, a transition group for students in Year 6 who may find the transition from primary school challenging, these run in the summer term before the students join SNS in September.

Each year the school runs a weeklong programme of assemblies, tutor group workshops and other projects focusing on a different aspect of SEN. Over the last few years, we have looked at dyslexia, autism, physical disabilities, sensory impairments and ADHD.
